Post a comment on my blog on any day between April 30 and June 1 and your name will be entered in a drawing for one of my trivia books. Three names will be drawn, one for each book.
Kathleen Kaska’s The
Sherlock Holmes Triviography and Quiz Book features hundreds of trivia
about the world's most famous detective, answering such questions as whether or
not Sherlock Holmes ever uttered the phrase "Elementary, my dear
Watson". Kathleen draws upon the entire Sherlock Holmes canon, plus the
hundreds of films and thousands of radio and television programs that featured
the detective and his inimitable partner, Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes Triviography and Quiz Book is enhanced with 75
separate quizzes, asking probing, intriguing, fun questions related to all of
Conan Doyle's 56 stories and four novels.
Also look for Kathleen’s other two
trivia book: The Agatha Christie
Triviography and Quiz Book and The
Alfred Hitchcock Triviography and Quiz Book. All three have been reissued
by LL-Publications.

In my humble opinion, it is not that easy to step into the role of Sherlock Holmes. Some actors like Vasily Livanov and Peter Cushing became Sherlock Holmes. On the other hand, Robert Downey Jr never really became Sherlock Holmes. It was just Downey Jr with a british accent.
ReplyDeleteI think an actor needs to project a cool and collected persona to make a convincing Sherlock Holmes. Of course, there are other requirements as well, such as having the necessary physical attributes (the aquiline features, tall stature etc..).Just my two cents though :)
Thanks for stopping by. What you say is very true. The best Holmes are cool and collected. What do you think about Cumberbathch?
DeleteWhen I read the canon, I had imagined Holmes to be a Gentleman who also happened to possess amazing powers of observation and deduction. So I always warm up to those performances which capture these attributes.
DeleteObviously, the makers of the BBC Sherlock series have their own thoughts and opinions about Sherlock Holmes. According to them, Sherlock is a sociopath. To a Holmes purist like me, this is just outright blasphemy. I do understand Cumberbatch did his best with the work given to him. But in my opinion, the BBC series is a mockery of the Sherlock Holmes canon created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Cheers!
Thanks for your comment. I do respect your opinion and love a good Holmes discussion. I agree that the new BBC series is difficult for many Holmes fan to take because of its current setting, which requires an modern focus. I must say, I was a bit stunned when the Scotland Yard detective in "A Study in Pink" referred to Holmes as a sociopath. I agree with you, I prefer to think of Holmes as a gentleman.
DeleteYour posting really appreciated. You’ve said it all beautiful. Keep it on with effective and interesting post.

DeleteGood post. You could definitely see your skills within the paintings you write. The world hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who aren't afraid to say how they believe. Always go after your heart. "Experience is a good school, but the fees are high." by Heinrich Heine.
