In the Beginning

We started our North American journey in Austin, Texas. On October 8, we will celebrate four months behind the wheel. And no, we are not in an RV, we are traveling in our Honda Civic. After Austin we headed north to begin our route around the Great Lakes, which started in Chicago; we turned left and skirted the lakes' shores until we reached the St. Lawrence Waterway. We continued north to the Gaspe Peninsula (Quebec), then back to the U.S. and New England for peak foliage season.

My husband does most of the driving since my head is always in a story and I'm constantly on the lookout for birds to add to my life list. We are now in Watertown, NY, getting the car serviced. And I'm taking a travel break to work on my latest mystery.

Travel Log: Day 112

On Wednesday we ended up in The Half-Way House, well, what's left of it. This was a bar in Fort Covington, New York which straddles the Canadian/ U.S. border. The place is closed, but we were able to take a look inside. A stripe is painted down the middle of the room with U.S. written on one side and Canada on the other.
